NAS Day 1: They're Hereeee!!! - April 3, 2014

Today, the Israelis arrived at 5:40am at JFK airport. Although it was early, Leah met them and they spent the day touring southern New York. They started by touring Ellis Island and seeing the Statue of Liberty, and after some fun in Battery Park, they got pizza for lunch (according to Ariel- “The pizza slices in the USA are HUGE!”). After lunch, they had a scavenger hunt on the Lower East Side that included such places as Katz’s Deli and Yona Schimmel's Knishery. They learned about what it was like to be an immigrant to America throughout the day. They all agreed: NYC is one of the coolest cities in the world! As different as it is from Rishon Lezion, they all decided that it was a pretty cool place to hang out, and they couldn't wait to see what the rest of the day would hold.

After leaving Manhattan, the Israelis came to Metro LeZion. Finally, the moment we’d all been waiting for: the Israelis had arrived. The Americans showed their excitement about their arrival by hiding in the closets in order to surprise the Israelis once they had arrived. The whole group played several icebreakers in order to introduce the Israelis to the Americas; these icebreakers thanks to the Welcome Committee. It was such a cool experience- getting to meet all 20 of the people we’d spent the last few months talking to and trying to get to know. Although we were all super tired after our first meeting as a full Metro LeZion cohort, we’re all so excited to get to learn, play, cheer, laugh, and grow as people over the next 10 days. Welcome to NAS!
